Self-Paced Courses
![Course logo for Listening Deeply, showing a person at a table with many thought bubbles about leftover food in storage containers, a rice cooker, and a takeout box with chopsticks, etc. The topics are each represented by a colorful spherical candy on the table. These candies each have layers within them.](https://indiyoung.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/09/LD-1024x387.jpg)
Listening Deeply (foundation course)
New course videos complement the book. Listening is the foundation for inclusivity and for new opportunities to support more people. Having clear techniques for understanding a person’s interior cognition helps you consider how well you are helping people achieve their purpose.
![course logo for Part 1: Qualitative Data Synthesis (Concepts & Summaries), showing a transcript with jewels coming out of it, where each jewel transforms into one summary (yellow pyramid)](https://indiyoung.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/09/CS-1024x387.png)
Part 1: Qualitative Data Synthesis (Concepts & Summaries)
Powerful new course videos & materials. Bias spreads into your “insights” when you skip analysis of transcripts. Preserve the perspective of what people convey through two-step data synthesis. It’s clear, simple, and even has comics. Everyone can do it!
![a field of yellow triangles (puzzle pieces from the prior course) coming together as patterns, with some in the foreground and some in the background](https://indiyoung.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/10/course03_cultivating_patterns-1024x387.jpg)
Part 2: Qualitative Data Synthesis (Cultivate Emergent Patterns)
Unparalleled course reveals unbiased patterns. Typical affinity groups are based on nouns, sequence, observations, or research attributes. You can create a more representative understanding using people’s focus of mental attention. Your org will see clearer opportunities as a result.
![three cartoon sketched heads with eyes closed. Their minds show as a tangled scribble in their cranium. Each head represents one thinking style. As such, each mind has a small, distinct part of tangled scribble colored a different color.](https://indiyoung.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/09/thinking_styles-1024x387.png)
Thinking Styles as Archetypes
Thinking styles are the archetypes behind all characters you use in scenarios or journey maps. Thinking styles are deeply researched; characters are imagined. Thinking Styles vary by people’s purpose, like various mindset hats people wear. Course will be updated in 2025.
![three framed pictures, implying that each study has a well-thought-out frame. The frame is the person's purpose. In these frames, three different size pumpkins show, which are a reference for the different sizes of people's purpose you can study. The analogy is used in the course itself.](https://indiyoung.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/09/Frame-your-study-1024x387.png)
Framing Your Study
A research study requires careful choices. This course will help you decide what knowledge your organization needs, the purpose your users have, and the framework for a study. Course will be updated in 2025.

Using Mental Model Skylines
Mental Model Skylines are tools for design strategy & inclusivity. They force you to look at your solutions through the perspective of people to see the gaps in your solutions.

- Listening Deeply (course: 11 hours)
- Thinking Styles (course: 9 hours)
- Framing Your Study (course: 9 hours)
Give your team a tiny taste of:
- Why this approach, what it’s for, when to use it
- Introduction to what’s involved
- A group exercise
- Discussion, answers for your context
Certification
You will qualify for Certification in Data Science That Listens (also called Problem Space Research) if you fulfill both of the following requirements.
- You complete all 6 video courses (60-70 hours of short videos plus quizzes & exercises)
- You actively participate during all four Practice Group meetings for each of the 6 courses. This is how Indi has a chance to assess your level of understanding. A Practice Group for a different course is offered every few months.
Temporary: During 2023, 2024, 2025 Indi offers about three Practice Groups per year, so getting Certification takes more than a year. She is in the midst of upgrading everything. If you need to get through all 6 courses and be certified within a year, you can schedule a Certification Call with Indi for each course that did not appear as a Practice Group that year.
Upon Certification, your name will be added to the list of graduates, and you will be able to add a credential to your LinkedIn or Xing profile. There is also a printable PDF certificate available.
Note: Your attendance might be subject to real life schedule disruptions, so there’s some flexibility built in.

Testimonials
I’ve taken short online courses from renowned brands or international universities, but Indi’s course series has been the single most useful series I’ve ever taken, never mind if it didn’t have some sort of global accreditation. She takes a lot of time, energy and effort to make it useful, practical…

Read moreI have really learned so much from Indi’s courses. While I knew I would gain knowledge that would help me understand my clients and their true needs, I had no idea how much her process has helped me in life (especially the listening course).
— Cindy Lowrey, 1-Feb-2020
Inclusive and accessible: The courses are designed so that a huge variety of profiles and situations can have access, trying to avoid bias. It is designed for different types of learning, poor vision or ear impairment, non-native English speakers, variable economic contexts and different time zones.

I absolutely loved the course and especially live sessions. It is a life changing experience. I’m going to recommend people who work for me take your class and working sessions. I believe this would contribute to their professional development and shape their view of the world in profound ways.
