FAQ – Finding Thinking Styles
- Finding Thinking Styles Practice Group is where we work with real data as a team.
- We have 93 short stories from people in the study. (with permission, a study we use frequently)
- The study is about what went through people’s minds as they decided whether or not to go out to a performance.
- At our final meeting: we will have a set of thinking styles and ideas how to use them.
Please watch these lessons before our first Meeting #1:
- Section 1 (only first two lessons, 41 minutes)
- 1.1 Think Bigger
- 1.2 Define Thinking Styles
- Section 2 (all four lessons, 1 hour 2 minutes)
- 2.1 Validity = Team
- 2.2 Represent Your People
- 2.3 Split Stories or Not?
- 2.4 Note the Essential Cognition
Each of you will be assigned about 6-9 stories. You are expected to represent these people’s cognition in each meeting.
- If you will miss Meeting #1, please alert us. Indi can assign people to you in advance, and you must do the homework on your own (writing notes about essential cognition on the shared Mural Board) before Meeting #2.
- If you will miss any other Meeting, we will assign your people to others who are participating. It will affect whether or not you qualify for Certification. (You might make up for it through fabulous participation in the other meetings.)
- If you prefer to just watch (not participate) during the meetings, please let Indi know. There are valid reasons to chose this option, even though it does not qualify you for Certification.
- A recording of the meeting will be available for you on the page where the Zoom & Mural links are.
The course is included in this bundle with the Practice Group.
- A decent plan is to watch the associated course lessons 30-minutes a day for 6 days before each practice meeting.
- Start watching videos as soon as you enroll, to get a head start.
- There are about 2-3 hours of lessons to watch per week
- Questions about the lessons? Use Slack channel #course-thinking-styles.
- Feel free to eat during the Zoom calls. Please bring whatever energy form you need!
- Each meeting is 2 hours.
- Check your local time for when to start.
- Find the links for Zoom and Mural under each “lesson” in My Courses here on the indiyoung.com website.
- Zoom calls: We use the same link for each of the six meetings.
- Mural board: We collaborate using stickies on a Mural board over the whole 6 weeks.
- Emergency! Check Slack if the meeting doesn’t seem to be happening. If Indi’s internet or electricity are down, she will let you know on the channel and postpone the meeting by a week. If the problem is on your side, we will be watching the channel and respond to you.
Discounts
- Employees of the same org can form a Private Practice Group with Indi of 6-16 people and set your dates to suit your schedule. (or team discounts are available for the courses without the practice group)
- If your circumstance doesn’t fit any of the four price-levels above, Indi wants to hear from you. She has been in your shoes frequently. Let her know what you can afford.
- Or you can get just the course, without the practice group, for half the price.
Refund Policy
Refunds are possible up until 94 hours (4 days) prior to the Practice Group kickoff date.
About the Practice Groups
Each Practice Group is associated with one of Indi’s self-paced courses. Indi leads exercises and discussion that provide practical experience, augmenting the self-paced course materials.
- Join a Practice Group with Indi and a small group of 8-16 people.
- Indi guides each practice session. You will get personal feedback from her.
- The session exercises are different from the exercises that come with the Self-Paced Course.
- This is how you may qualify for Certification: Practice Group + Self-Paced Course for all courses.
- 6 months access to Practice Group canvas & recordings
“Most beautiful exercises I’ve seen!”
Testimonials
The Practice Group has been an absolute delight — your kind and intentional approach in running it all is genuinely wonderful and has been inspiring to see.
— Mazen Abusharkh, 27-Apr-2026
Enroll as soon as a new live practice is open. It is so rich, with so much knowledge to improve not just our work as UX Researchers, but also to use in our own lives as well.
— Benício Pereira, 8-May-2024
Thank you for the supportive atmosphere at live practice meetings and all your energy.
— Yulia, Ukraine, 1-Aug-2022
Indi’s class allows you to practice research rigor and apply what you learn in a real-world setting. A class like this is hard to come by, where you learn tactical tips to do strategic research right. You walk away learning that questions are a powerful tool of clarity and that the skills you’ve just practiced with Indi will guide you to a deeper understanding of people as people, not users.

Go for it! Definitely bundle it with the self-paced course (or book) for maximum learning.

I started off as a way to do something refreshing, just have conversations with people and to practice what I’m learning in real life. But I got so much more out of it. Just by trying these practices I learned so much about how to do the deep listening. I don’t think doing just seeing the course alone would have given me this level of enrichment that I got from the live practice on top…
— Mennatallah Saleh, 6-Dec-2023
Read moreLearning how to listen alongside others to talk it over with — what you find, how amazing it is, and what you find out about yourself (and how hard it is – whoa). This practice series experience was all of it.
— Alex, 28-Nov-2020
Really great course with good interaction. Make sure you dont have anything booked during the 4 live classes. I missed a class and watched the backup recording once, which wasn’t quite the same.
— anonymous, 26-Aug-2019
Thank you for sharing your sparkling and kind energy with us. I learned a lot just observing your communication style in the practice sessions. I cannot wait to attend next practice group with you.
— Alla Seleznova, 9-May-2024
I think the associated Practice Group should be mandatory for anyone looking to achieve the certification or even just learn. Practice makes the master, but I would like to say that this kind of practice makes you a great listener.
— Miguel Baeza, 17-Oct-2023
I really enjoyed the dynamics of the practice group meetings and the way Indi brings together people from some many countries who learn together as a knowledge-hungry team. The exercises were extremely helpful, and honestly I did not expect an online experience to be this productive and skill-boosting.
— Maria Mishchenko, 1-Jul-2020
If you really want to understand what listening deeply is and a safe place to practice, take this course and practice group.
