Learn to map your problem space

In this series of 6 courses Indi will show you how to do better research to guide the direction of your product with less unconscious bias & greater clarity of opportunities. The courses cover Indi’s complete method of listening sessions, mental model diagrams, thinking styles, and opportunity maps, and can lead to a Certificate of Problem Space Research.

1. Listening Deeply

Next date: date coming soon

Listening deeply is a powerful skill. Most people don’t realize they are listening at the surface, so the experience doesn’t seem to shift anything. This course teaches depth.

2. Concepts & Summaries (analysis part one)

Next date: 10-Feb-21

Research teams tend to hurry through data analysis, which bends the insights toward their own perspective. In this course you will learn bias-free analysis of transcripts.

3. Cultivating Patterns (analysis part two)

Next date: 24-Mar-21

Typical affinity grouping involves sticky notes and intuitive understanding of how concepts fit together. Bias creeps in. This course covers a more accurate method.

4. Thinking Styles

Next date: 5-May-21

Thinking styles are deeply researched, demographics-free mindsets. They are much more reliable and flexible than demographic & psychographic descriptions of sets of people.

5. Mental Model Diagrams as Opportunity Maps

Opportunity maps are tools for design strategy & inclusivity. They force you to look at your solutions through the perspective of people trying to accomplish their own purposes.

A research study requires careful choices. This course will help you decide what knowledge your organization needs, the purpose your users have, and the framework for a study.

How does it work?

Duration

4 classes of 2 hours each. The live version of a course takes about four weeks to complete.

Time Zones

Live courses are taught Wed 10:30am or Friday 5:30pm San Francisco time. here are two helpful tools: 1. Time zone converter 2. Explore your time zone

Homework Review

Students who enroll for the live version of the courses will have Indi review their homework.

You will qualify for a Certificate of Problem Space Research by Indi Young if you fulfill all three of the following requirements. The certificate shows up as a link on your LinkedIn profile and is also available in printable format.

Requirements
  1. You attend the live-access sessions where Indi has a chance to assess your level of understanding, and that level is solid.
  2. You complete all homework assignments and relate your experience during class.
  3. You complete all six courses (in any order).
  4. *Bonus: You complete a study and Indi gets to review your work.
