5: Teach AI to Recognize Humanity

Aim your AI toward human variety

Now we can finally deliver variety to our audiences, using AI to recognize which thinking style and approach a person has. If we have designed a path for each thinking style, AI can guide them there.

Don’t make your AI human-like. Make your AI love human variety.

In an AI-driven world, we need to help people celebrate their humanity. If we don’t make the effort, then we risk turning people into automatons.

How It Has Worked

So far there’s only one example, and it was before its time. It’s early days.

Different Approaches to Losing Weight

2006

Healthwise

Healthwise logo

Objective:
Healthwise wanted to see if using people’s vocabulary and way of thinking about dieting could help change behavioral outcomes.

Outcome:
Healthwise diversified the modules they created for three different audience types (thinking styles) trying to lose weight. The tone, the actual exercises or calorie-counting, etc, were each different per thinking style. There was uptake, but ultimately this solution was taken down because there was no way to pre-identify which thinking style people were without giving them a survey. (Happily, now we have AI to do the pre-identifying!)

Indi’s Essays on Humanize AI

Text says, "Let's not just throw AI at it and hope it gets solved." It continues, "Let's support more people's purposes with designed solutions, and ask AI to recognize who is after what." There is a red background with doodles on it and the IndiYoung logo at the bottom.
