Privacy Policy

Who I am

My website address is: https://indiyoung.com. I am based near San Francisco, CA. Research project team members include experts in several other locations in the US, Canada, Mexico, Australia, India, and Ukraine.

Your data that I collect & protect

Email sent to me is kept in my email archive. This archive primarily exists on my own hard drive (after routing through Google mail, which I clean out every few months). If someone gets access to my hard drive, then … that would be terrible. I have no idea how I would deal. No matter what, if you contact me, your email address is vulnerable via this scenario.

Course purchases are tracked in Woocommerce. A record of purchases is stored in my Stripe account, and notifications are archived for a few months in my email archive, then cleaned out. Name of participants in the Live Practice series are recorded in a Google sheet, so that I can mark who has attended the meetings. All your payment transactions are wholly within the Stripe servers.

Course communications are sometimes sent to the group of participants in each class. Communication also appears within your account on this site. I also have a Slack workspace where we can all collaborate, as well as shared exercises in Mural. All of these locations will be using your email address to signify you.

Cookies are used for logging in to your account on this site, and for Learndash to track your progress through the self-paced courses you have purchased. If you have an account and you log in to this site, I will set a temporary cookie to determine if your browser accepts cookies. This cookie contains no personal data and is discarded when you close your browser. When you log in, I will also set up several cookies to save your login information and your screen display choices. Login cookies last for two days, and screen options cookies last for a year. If you select “Remember Me”, your login will persist for two weeks. If you log out of your account, the login cookies will be removed.

Analytics track page traffic, which I look at to see if any content should be surfaced differently to make it easier for visitors.

Comments for this site are turned off. Comments are welcome on my Medium publication Inclusive Software.

A data breach of your email address from one of these locations is possible, so if someone emails you spoofing me, don’t give them any bank, credit card, tax, or citizen numbers. I will never ask you for that. Your purchase data is protected within Stripe, and they have security and plans and teams in place in case of a data breach.

Data sharing

I share no data. I do not share your data with anyone. I don’t do any profiling or decision making based on this data. My assistant helps me track your data and send you responses regarding your purchase of courses.

I do not receive data from any third-party, except notifications of purchases from PayPal and Stripe.

Your rights over your data

You may request that I delete any record I have from your email or ticket purchases. I will comply within a few days.

Mural Mental Model Skyline Generator Privacy Policy

All data, including Mural login information, user details like Mural username, and all uploaded Skyline data, are retained ONLY in your browser’s local storage.

What that means is that all saved project data exists only on your hard drive, not on the indiyoung.com server. You can delete all of this saved data at any time by clearing your browser’s cache for indiyoung.com.

This includes data about your Google Drive profile and account. We do not save any login information for your Google Account, any metadata or account information details, or any of your Google Sheets data.

Any data from your Google account is stored in your browser’s session storage only during this browser session, after you authorize the app to access your account. If you close your browser tab or window, you will need to reconnect to Google in order to access any Google Sheet-related data.

Google Drive data we access during your use of this app:

  1. A list of all Google Sheets saved in your Google Drive, in order to provide you with that list and allow you to select a Google Sheet to use as the source data for generating a Mental Model Skyline
  2. The data stored within the Google Sheet that you select to use as the source data for generating a Mental Model Skyline

Again, we do not save or store any of your data, including any data from your Google Sheets, nor is any of your account information ever shared with the owners of indiyoung.com, or anyone else.

IMPORTANT: If you fully clear your browser’s cache at any point, your saved project data will be lost.

We do it this way for two main reasons:

  1. Privacy: We never see or store any of the personal or professional data associated with your use of this app.
  2. Storage: We have limited storage capacity on our web server and cannot allocate space to saved data files.

Mural Mental Model Skyline Generator Terms of Use

1. Acceptance of Terms

By accessing or using the Mental Model Skyline Generator (the “App”), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Use. If you do not agree to these terms, please do not use the App.

2. Eligibility and Access

The App is currently available only to logged-in members of indiyoung.com, including individuals who have previously purchased access to one of the courses offered through indiyoung.com. Access to the App is tied to your indiyoung.com account, and your continued use is subject to the terms of that account.

3. Third-Party Services

The App connects to and relies on third-party services to function. Your use of these services through the App is governed by each provider’s own terms:

  • Mural. The App uses the Mural API to connect to Murals that you specify and to generate widgets (such as a Mental Model Skyline) inside those Murals. Your use of Mural is governed by Mural’s own terms of use and policies, available at mural.co. The App acts only on the Murals you authorize and only to create the content you request.
  • Google Drive and Google Sheets. The App uses the Google Drive and Google Sheets APIs to (a) retrieve a list of Google Sheets in your Google Drive account so you can select one, and (b) read data from the Google Sheet you select, for the sole purpose of generating a Mental Model Skyline from that data. Your use of Google services through the App is governed by Google’s own terms of service and privacy policy.

You are responsible for ensuring that your use of these third-party services through the App complies with the applicable terms of those services. The App’s access to your Mural and Google accounts occurs only through the authorization you grant and only for the purposes described above.

4. Data and Privacy

We do not save any user information related to your use of the App. Specifically:

  • No Mural account information, Google account information, or other account-related data is stored by the App.
  • No user data is saved on the indiyoung.com server.
  • No user-related data used by the App is made available to the owners or operators of indiyoung.com at any time.

Data retrieved from your Mural or Google accounts is used only transiently, during an active session, to perform the action you request (such as generating a skyline), and is not retained afterward.

5. Acceptable Use

You agree to use the App only for its intended purpose — connecting to your authorized Murals and Google Sheets to generate Mental Model Skylines. You agree not to use the App to access accounts or data you are not authorized to access, to interfere with or disrupt the App or its underlying services, or to violate the terms of any connected third-party service.

6. No Warranty

The App is provided “as is” and “as available,” without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied. We do not warrant that the App will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that it will produce any particular result. The App depends on third-party services (Mural and Google), and we are not responsible for the availability, accuracy, or behavior of those services.

7. Limitation of Liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, indiyoung.com and its operators will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages arising out of or related to your use of the App, including but not limited to any loss of data within your Mural or Google accounts.

8. Changes to These Terms

We may update these Terms of Use from time to time. Any changes will be posted on this page with an updated “Last updated” date. Your continued use of the App after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the revised terms.
